Summer Look of the Day #ootd

Wow, is it ever hot out there? I love this easy breezy look. This is usually just what I'm thinking about for date night or a girl's night in the summer. This look is fabulous because it combines so many of the neutral items we already have in our closets. Neutral clutch, neutral sandals, aviators,etc.. Paired with a loose, slip on sundress this look is effortlessly chic.

Snowpacolypse!!!

I have been an absentee blogger of late due to my children being out of school for the past 11 days, and various house challenges: frozen pipes, gas logs out, wacky heat pump. I seriously cannot make this stuff up. I'm trying to take a light approach at this point. One day at a time.

In the meantime...I have enjoyed this winter weather more by staying warm with good gear.

This weekend we went to Wintergreen on a Girl Scout ski trip (it did not look like the above picture). We had quite the adventure with 70 mph winds and a big snowstorm . We were snowed in the second night (we could not even see the driveway!), but in the morning it was smooth sailing back home. Suffice to say, we were not in high fashion, just a lot of great winter gear: North Face, Spyder, Smart Wool, Kamik, were my weekend heroes!

Look of the Day: Cyber Monday

Sometimes you are just having a tunic kind of day. This is all I could manufacture out of my closet this morning. After all, it was a day of computer work and carpools. I have had a similar chambray tunic from J.Crew for years. It is fabulous as a cover-up in the summer and equally useful in the winter layered over slim tops. Just roll up the sleeves so the under-layer peeks out.

Thinking about transitioning my wardrobe to Fall clothes is so exciting.  I just hope the weather cooperates with my plan! I love the midi-skirt and sweater look. It's so ladylike and elegant, a riff on our grandmother's staple wardrobe pieces.

This casual street style caught my eye. How do you wear these athletically inspired striped tops? Try mixing them with super feminine pieces. This look is adorable. I love the boxy top with the flowing skirt and bright necklace. The black leather jacket and clutch add some edge. The heels are a fun addition, but I think I would wear a wedge for height and comfort.

Color is so invigorating but the absence of it can be tres chic. This is a beautiful day or night look that is easy to pull off.  I love the silky soft fabric of this blouse.  But you could easily swap a classic cotton broadcloth button-down instead.  To get the shirt tucked right just loosely tuck it in and then give it a tug at the front. Roll your sleeves up as well.  Pair it with white skinny crops and wayfarers. The color combination is crisp and light.  White on white with camel/nude accessories.  You could also swap the heels for a nude or metallic flat sandal if that is more comfortable. Easy easy easy!!
