All Hail the Hoop (Earring)

Ahhh, the hoop is back.  What accessory could be more timeless? It was spotted on the Balmain Runway for Spring 2013. 

To me, it has never gone out of style.  I have been wearing (BIG) hoops since I was around 15 years old.  I love them.  They ride the line between classic and bohemian so well.  A perfectly preppy outfit is always complemented by a hoop.  It keeps everyone guessing! It's the perfect accessory- classic with a bit of edge.

The hoop earring can be seen in Egyptian hieroglyphics.  For a bit of the  20th century it was "abandoned to gypsies and sailors" (Town & Country). Recently, the journalist Christiane Amanpour chose hoops for her Twitter profile photo. Say no more.

Hoop earrings are among my all time favorites.  They combine beauty and utility so well. I am always on the look out for a pair at a great price.  If you are picky about your metals, sterling silver hoops can be found for $15! My ears are particular about the weight of earrings, so hoops can be both large and light.  The perfect combination: all the drama with none of the effort.

Look of the Day

Color is so invigorating but the absence of it can be tres chic. This is a beautiful day or night look that is easy to pull off.  I love the silky soft fabric of this blouse.  But you could easily swap a classic cotton broadcloth button-down instead.  To get the shirt tucked right just loosely tuck it in and then give it a tug at the front. Roll your sleeves up as well.  Pair it with white skinny crops and wayfarers. The color combination is crisp and light.  White on white with camel/nude accessories.  You could also swap the heels for a nude or metallic flat sandal if that is more comfortable. Easy easy easy!!
