Oscar's Best

Ohhhh the Academy Awards, as my husband says,  it's my Super Bowl! The red carpet makes me so happy.  Here are my picks for BEST DRESSED of the evening.  I cannot address worst dressed- as that just makes me sad.

Jessica Chastain was unreal in McQueen.  Wow, the strapless black gown with gold embroidery is sensational paired with her natural, loose curls.  She has pulled off a super dramatic gown with natural ease.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji.  This dress is stunning and shows how the right ruching and material can highlight all your assets.  There is nothing more beautiful than a woman's curves.  She is stunning in this gorgeous gown.

Emma Stone in Giambaltista Valli Haute Couture.  At first glance I thought this gown was a little mature for an actress in her 20s.  But when I saw her moving and joking around in it onstage I changed my tune.  It has a well-placed slit in the bodice and such beautiful flow.  Plus, I love red!  How lovely.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford.  Wow, love the cape.  She looks so sophisticated.

Alexandra Lamy is a grecian goddess in this plunging navy gown with jeweled belt and accents.

Ode to the Red Dress

Oh red dress, how do I love thee?

My grandmother once told me a story of when she was first married.  Their budget was tight and she needed one dress.  This dress had to work for church, parties, meetings, and lady's lunch.  She could only afford one dress at the time to serve all these possible events.  I think most of us would go with the safe choice: black.  But she did not.  The took her money to Montaldo's and bought one RED DRESS.  I love this bold, vivacious choice!  The next time you have an event- whether it be special or just everyday, consider a red dress.  It works well for day and night and you will stand out in the crowd.

Every shade of red dress has been seen on the runways for the past couple of seasons.  It is well represented for Fall 2012 as well.

Rock & Republic for Kohls

Following on the heels of other hugely successful designer launches with budget retailers (think Missoni for Target and Versace for H&M), tomorrow, February 15th, Rock and Republic relaunches it's line exclusively through Kohls.  That's more like it!  As the name suggests, Rock & Republic is known for an edgy, rock music inspired look.  But they have something for everyone in this collection.  Who doesn't love a new pair of DJs? The prices range from $36 to $160 with both women's and men's apparel and shoes.

Steals & Deals

Steals & Deals

Deals of the day:   as shown in an earlier post- pink jeans are a fun wardrobe addition for Winter and Spring.  Get them while you can from Old Navy, 'Rock Star' fit.  From what I understand it has been their most popular color since they came in.  My other fabulous find is Revlon Photo Ready Eye Brightener and Primer.  I have been using a lovely brightener by laura mercier for a couple of years now.  This one from Revlon works well enough and without the shimmer.  It has it's own brush built in for easy application. It is a perfect everyday item at the right price.  Plus, you can pick it up at your corner drugstore.
